One of the most interesting aspects of the new Ford Explorer is the Terrain Management System. This system allows you to dial into a specific terrain to help optimize your cars performance. There are four possible options available for you to drive in. • Normal – biases torque to the front wheels and sends it to the rear only as needed • Mud/Ruts – switches the throttle to a more aggressive mode, limits upshifting and desensitizes stability control allowing the tires to spin as needed • Sand – the throttle throws maximum torque to the wheels, placing the transmission in lower gears for as long as possible, which allows the wheels to spin aggressively • Grass/Gravel/Snow – places the throttle in a setting to minimize wheel slip. If you are in the New England area or any other place it snows you know how helpful that Grass/Gravel/Snow function could be.

This SUV is also great for an active family or the college student with a lot of friends. It can hold up to 7 people in its roomy interior. There are three rows to help comfortably fit everyone you want. There is 21 cubic feet of cargo space but on top of that you can fold down the second and third row increasing cargo room to nearly 4 times that.
Check out what some of the critics are saying about it:
“Long ago, Jeep proved with the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee that a unibody chassis isn't necessarily an impediment to building a fully capable off-roader, and Ford appears to have taken that lesson to heart, along with targeting big improvements in fuel economy and driving dynamics.” -- Autoblog
“Going beyond conventional electronic stability control (ESC), this ‘intelligent’ four-wheel-drive setup optimizes powertrain and brake mapping to serve up individualized settings for Normal, Snow, Sand, Mud, and Hill Descent conditions. Each mode is easily selectable from the centrally mounted controller in a manner and style not unlike the setup found in various Land Rover vehicles, not coincidentally, a brand Ford owned from 2000 to 2008.” --Kelley Blue Book
